So you're coming to Record Club..
We are looking forward to seeing you and spending the evening relaxing and quietly listening to music. There will be yummy food, probably some chocolate and certainly some music you have not heard before. Feel free to bring something to drink like beer or wine. We can vouch that everyone is nice and non judgy!
ANY kind of music is considered A-OK.
Here is a silly “instructional” video from MANY years ago. The beginning is totally accurate but alas, we no longer burn CDs and make cover art..
The Rules of Record Club
Bring two songs, but obviously, it’s ok to bring “back up” songs in case you change your mind. But having two in mind is a good place to start. Minds do change based on what others play, it happens! If you are wondering what’s been played, have a look at The Playlist.
We have two rounds. In the first round, your song is played twice. During the second play, we’ll turn it down so you can tell us about your song if you want. In the second round (the lightning Round) your song will only be played once. So if you have a particularly long song, save it for round two.
We get to tell what we played and why AFTER the song is played – no announcements, no disclaimers, just hit play…
We don’t talk while the music is on, we really get to listen. We’ll determine the order of play by drawing playing cards. We enter our tracks right here in real time. Any questions, let us know
Formats
Anything you can plug a 1/4” headphone jack into is fair game, but songs from your phone, mp3 player, or computer are easiest to deal with. Confirm in advance, but we usually have a turntable available and are happy to supply a cassette or CD player if you want to show off an object or you think it sounds better. Sorry, no 8-tracks, 78s, or wax cylinders.
Rooftop Record Club?
Yes, we sometimes have Record Club on Sacha’s roof! If you are coming to a roof-top record club, bring a set of headphones. If it rains or it’s too cold we’ll have a “regular” club, downstairs. If you have something that sounds good in stereo, bring it on.
